Our Fundamentals class will run on Tuesdays from 6:45pm until 8:30pm.
In our weekly Taiko Fundamentals class, new drummers learn essential taiko skills such as kata (form), kiai (vocalization) and kumi-daiko (ensemble drumming). Using our entire bodies to learn and play a song, we explore first-hand the mesmerizing, heart-pounding power of taiko while exploring its rich traditions and history. Taiko Fundamentals class is an invigorating experience for body, mind and spirit. No musical experience necessary.
Our style class will run from 7:30pm until 9:30pm and will explore more advanced taiko songs and styles.
Our summer classes will be divided into three sessions.
Session 1 (3-nights) May 17-31: $75 for all three Tuesdays.
Session 2 (4-nights) June 14-28, July 5th: $100 for all four Tuesdays.
Session 3 (4-nights) July 19-26 and Aug 2-9: $100 for all four Tuesdays.
$250 for paying for all three sessions up front. Drop-in rate of $25 is available. Students eligible
to take both classes may do so for $40 per night.

Come light up the night with food, fire and music from all over the world with Somerville Art Council’s “Ignite! Global Street Food and Fire Festival.” Odaiko New England will be performing twice during the night, times TBD. With roving performers, crafts and games, food vendors, and stage performances from cultures all over the world, it is an event sure to be a feast of sights, sounds and actual food.
The event is free, but the Somerville Arts Council has a suggested donation of $1.
Rain date: Sunday, August 14 from 6-10pm.
Come and enjoy a night of thunderous drumming and see what our students and members have been working on. Suggested donation $5.
Oshogatsu, a festival welcoming the New Year, is one of Japan’s most important annual festivals. Join us at the Children’s Museum to celebrate 2017, the Year of the Rooster. Following our performance will be a shi-shi-mai (lion dance) and parade with taiko accompaniment.
